Khanh Hoa's sports teams depart for national tournaments

From now to the beginning of December, six provincial sports teams, namely athletics, muay Thai, indoor volleyball, kich-boxing, weight lifting, and taekwondo, depart for national sports tournaments. With the difficulties caused by COVID-19 pandemic, it is not easy for Khanh Hoa sports teams to achieve medals.

Since the outbreak of the four wave of COVID-19 in April, the sports activities in Khanh Hoa have faced many difficulties and challenges. According to the original plan for 2021, the sports teams of the provincial Sports Technique Training Center would take part in 67 national and international tournaments and try to achieve 55 gold medals, 65 silver medals, and 80 bronze medals. The center also planned to train 566 athletes. 37 athletes were expected to obtain master-class title; 70 athletes were hoped to obtain first-class title. However, the complicated situations of the pandemic forced the General Department of Sports and Physical Training to cancel 28 national tournaments and organize only 39 tournaments in which 13 tournaments were organized, 26 remaining ones will be organized in December.

In October, some athletes of the provincial Sports Technique Training Center were tested positive for COVID-19 and had to be quarantined. It has been difficulty for the coaches and athletes to maintain regular practice and training. However, before departing for national tournaments, the athletes expressed their high determination to obtain good results. Athletics athlete Tran Nhat Hoang is expected to achieve a gold medal.
 
Reportedly, one athlete of Sanna-Sanest Khanh Hoa volleyball team, which travelled to Vinh Phuc Province to take part in the National A-Class Volleyball Tournament in 2021, was tested positive for COVID-19. Therefore, the whole team have to be quarantined, which means they cannot participate in the tournament.  The other sports teams of Khanh Hoa have travelled to the localities hosting sports tournaments. However, the organization of these tournaments will depend on the situations of the pandemic in the localities. 
 
As reported by Hoang Thi Huyen Nga, deputy director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Sports Technique Training Center, the provincial sports teams took part in 13 tournaments, achieving 17 gold medals, 21 silver medals, and 36 bronze medals. 24 Khanh Hoa athletes have obtained master title; 24 athletes have secured first-class title. This is an encouraging in the current difficult situation related to COVID-19.
