In Khanh Hoa, some movement sports like basketball, swimming, and mini football have developed quite well with a large number of players. In order to further these sports, Khanh Hoa needs to incorporate them into the main competition system.

Basketball has been a familiar sport of lots of young people in Khanh Hoa. In summer, most of the centers of culture and sports or children’s houses in the province opened basketball classes, attracting around 30 to 50 people. Basketball was also incorporated into the school curricula of junior high schools and high schools. The schools also formed their basketball teams to take part in the Phu Dong Sports Festival.

Nha Trang was the pioneer of basketball movement in Khanh Hoa. The city held and maintained many basketball tournaments in the last ten years, such as basketball championship, summer basketball tournament for teenagers and children, and 3x3 basketball tournament. These tournaments attracted the attendance of not only players in Nha Trang but also in other localities like Cam Ranh and Ninh Hoa. However, these tournaments were just the spontaneous ones because basketball has not been a part of Khanh Hoa’s sports competition system.

Swimming is also a sport which has been interested by many children in Khanh Hoa. Although having faced a lot of difficulties like facilities and funds, many units and localities in the province have tried to hold regular swimming classes for children. Some units even reduced tuition fees or offered free tuition classes in order to attract the learners. After finishing these classes, some units held small-scale swimming competitions to create useful playgrounds for the learners as well as assess their swimming skills.

Among movement sports in Khanh Hoa, mini football has developed most strongly. There have been more and more mini football pitches over the province. The friendly mini football tournaments were often organized by the units and localities, in which K-League, a tournament held by some individuals and businesses, has been the most outstanding one. However, these tournaments, like many other movement sports tournaments in Khanh Hoa, were organized spontaneously because they have not been incorporated into the main competition system. This has partly hindered the development of these movement sports.

As stated by Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, the department planed to organized swimming and basketball tournaments in 2018. However, due to financial difficulties, especially caused by Typhoon Damrey, the department intends to call for contributions from the public in order to promote the movement.
