The first province-level tournament for karate clubs of Khanh Hoa was held at Nha Trang City Sports Training and Competing Center on December 16-17. The whole expense of this tournament was funded by sponsors.

The tournament was joined by 113 male players and 67 female players of 15 karate clubs over the province. At the tournament, the players competed in two events: kata and kumite. The tournament was held in order to create a playground for karate players and promote the movement of karate in Khanh Hoa.

Although the organization needs to be improved, the first-held provincial level tournament for karate clubs attracted a large number of participants. According to Nguyen Phuc Vinh, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Karate Association, the fact that the tournament was organized based on the socialized funds was a positive change in organizing sports tournament in the province. This promises to improve the quality of the movement activities of the association in particular and Khanh Hoa’s karate in general. Vinh also hoped to continue receiving the support from the authorities and sponsors in order to hold tournaments of better quality.

Reportedly, Khanh Hoa Provincial Karate Association originates from a club formed in 1984 at Nguyen Van Troi High School with more than ten practitioners. As a social organization, association often faced many difficulties, especially financial problems, in organizing tournaments. Until recently, the association decided to organize the first province-level tournament for karate clubs with the encouragement and support from the localities and sponsors. The decision also received positive response from the karate practitioners in the province.

“The province’s sports section has always paid attention on the sports socialization and directed the localities and social organizations to carry out this policy. However, it has been difficult to raise funds from socialization for the martial arts. Therefore, the attempt to hold successfully the first provincial level tournament for karate clubs of the provincial Karate Association should be acknowledged and encouraged,” said Vo Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports.
