The recent badminton competition within the framework of the Eighth Physical Training and Sports Festival of Khanh Hoa Province reflected some positive signs of the badminton movement in Khanh Hoa. For example, competitions attracted many spectators; there was no decrease in the number of participants; the units had paid more attention on improving athletes’ competence.

The competitions of badminton event took place from October 19 to October 22 at the provincial Sports Competition House. The tournament was participated by 170 male and female players of nine units and localities over the province, including Van Ninh, Ninh Hoa, Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh, Cam Lam, Khanh Son, provincial Youth Union, and provincial Police.

In the past, the event for young players aged from 12 to 15 was often the competitions between Nha Trang’s and Cam Ranh’s players. However, at this year’s tournament, many players of Khanh Son and Ninh Hoa showed that they were competitive with other players from the localities having stronger badminton movement. Player Duong Huu Yen Ngan of the mountainous area Khanh Son won gold medal in women’s singles. In mixed doubles event, the pair of Khanh Son also overcame the pair of Nha Trang to gain the highest prize. In the other events, the players of Nha Trang still showed their superiority to the other players and won a total of 11 gold medals. Finally, Nha Trang team finished first; Ninh Hoa achieved second prize for whole group; Khanh Son came third.

Many participants said that this year’s tournament had had a higher quality and had been more attractive than the tournament of the provincial seventh Physical Training and Sports Festival held four year ago. “To me, the competitions of the 2017 badminton tournament were quite exciting, partly reflected the progress of badminton movement in the province. The players from some localities which had gained no achievement at the previous tournaments like Ninh Hoa, Cam Lam, and Khanh Son, preformed quite well at this year’s tournament. This showed that these localities have invested better for the badminton players,” said Truong Quang Thien, a senior participant from Nha Trang.

Besides, the presence of a large number of spectators and their enthusiastic cheer were also a great spiritual encouragement for the players at the 2017 tournament.
