Tu Hoang Thong, born 1972, is one of the first Vietnamese chess players who gained Grand Master title (1999). He set a record for becoming the Vietnam’s youngest champion at the age of fourteen in 1986.
Hoang Thong’s championship reaffirmed the strong point in the Blitz Chess of Vietnam’s chess team after the impressive achievements of other chess players like Quang Liem, Truong Son and Kim Phung.
