180 medical institutions nationwide are in need of the supply of blood, especially of type O, prompting the National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute to issue a call for blood donation. The sufficient blood supply is still available for treatment in Khanh Hoa Province alone.

In response to the call of the National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute, many local residents have come to Khanh Hoa Hematology & Blood Transfusion Center to donate blood. Over the past 10 days, every day, the center receives more than 20 donors, half of them with type O blood.

A resident named Ho Ngoc Thanh, Nha Trang City says, “Thanks to the donated blood source, my daughter has been saved. Therefore, when learning about the blood donation call of the National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute on a newspaper, I immediately come here to donate blood.”

Joining the 2018 tenth “Red Sunday” in Nha Trang City on January 13, Nguyen Phuoc Tuan, the Navy Academy student hoped his blood will help save other lives, especially in case of the current strain on blood reserves.

The blood reserves at the center have met the blood demand for medical emergency and treatment. However, to assure sufficient blood supply during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, the center has held blood donation sessions at non-business agencies, departments and schools, according to Dr. Vo Xuan Thanh, Direvtor of Khanh Hoa Hematology & Blood Transfusion Center.

Reportedly, over the past 10 years, sufficient blood supply has been assured in Khanh Hoa Province thanks to local residents’ blood donation and Khanh Hoa Steering Board for Blood Donation’s specific plans on distributing donated blood and organizing blood donation programs in suitable periods. Khanh Hoa is among 10 provinces nationwide with outstanding achievements in blood donation campaigns. 105 blood donation sessions were held in 2017, collecting over 19,200 units of blood, thousands of which were sent to the National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute. Since the beginning of the year, Khanh Hoa Steering Board for Blood Donation has held 3 blood donation sessions, drawing 1,000 donors.

“The National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute has called Khanh Hoa Province for the aid supply of 1,500 units of blood. We are launching the national call to all affiliations and we are trying to transfer the blood to the National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute as soon as possible. Some 20 blood donation drives will be held with about 3,000 units of blood expected to be given this January and February,” says Luu Thi Bich Huong, Khanh Hoa Red Cross Vice-Chairperson.
