Khanh Hoa Social Security Office in association with Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training held a ceremony on December 21 to receive health care insurance coverage support and honor 16 businesses for their funding medical insurance cards for 1,152 disadvantaged students in Khanh Hoa Province.

The September 2017 figure released by the leader of Khanh Hoa Social Security Office shows more than 1 million people, including 220,700 students, are covered by medical insurance, accounting for 89,25%. More than 17,000 students are medically uninsured and most of them are from disadvantaged families. They are less likely to receive primary health care at schools and are more likely to pay hospital cost higher than the insured.

Under the guideline of Prime Minister, Instruction No. 09 by Provincial Standing Committee and Document No. 6843 dated August 4, 2017 by Khanh Hoa People’s Committee on mobilizing social resources to buy medical insurance cards for the needy. Khanh Hoa Social Security Office has cooperated with Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training to mobilize businesses to fund medical insurance cards for the disadvantaged, according to Duong Van Hoa, Director of Khanh Hoa Social Security Office.

After 2 months, 16 businesses have provided more than VND559 million to help health care insurance coverage for disadvantaged students. Specifically, Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Company has donated VND100 million, Power Engineering Consulting 4 Company  VND100 million, Lien Viet Post Joint Stock Commercial Bank more than VND96 million, Khanh Hoa Lottery Company: VND50 million, Khanh Viet Corporation: VND50 million, Khanh Hoa Commercial Bank for Investment & Development: VND50million, etc.

Tran Quang Man, Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has directed schools to mobilize students to buy medical insurance cards. Annually, 90% of students are covered by medical insurance. The province has provided medical insurance cards for poor and marginally poor students, ethnic minority students and social welfare beneficiaries. However, disadvantaged students are also in need of financial assistance to buy medical insurance cards as the medical insurance coverage among disadvantaged students is still low.

“It’s essential to help disadvantaged students to buy medical insurance cards. Our company has used part of its profit and called for the donation of the staff to assist students with their health care needs,” says Vu Thanh Danh, Member of the Board of Directors, Chief Accountant of Power Engineering Consulting Company 4. “I’m very happy to receive a medical insurance card funded by businesses. The support has motivated me to study harder to become a good citizen,” says Ha Si Phong, a fifth-grader at Vinh Hoa 1 Primary School.
