Khanh Hoa University has made urgent repairs to some basic infrastructures damaged by devastating Typhoon Damrey to temporarily ensure teaching and learning activities. Some repair and construction design and cost estimate have been submitted to Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee for approval. Particularly, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has agreed in principle to the reconstruction of the university’s multi-functional building that was smashed in the typhoon.

Typhoon Damrey has caused severe destruction estimated at over VND7.78 billion to Khanh Hoa University. The university has made urgent repairs to some basic infrastructures worth more than VND580 million to temporarily ensure teaching and learning activities after the typhoon.

Some design and cost estimate for the construction of a 5-storey dormitory and basketball court have been completed and submitted to Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee for approval. Besides, the university has given VND24 million aid to 35 staff affected by the devastating typhoon. So far, they have basically stabilized their life, says PhD. Chu Dinh Loc, Vice-Principal of the Khanh Hoa University.

Especially, Khanh Hoa University's 800m2 multi-functional building constructed 10 years ago collapsed in the typhoon. The damage was estimated at VND6 billion. The multi-functional building used to be a sports venue for students. In the recent working session with the university, Khanh Hoa leaders have agreed the reconstruction of the multi-functional building and requested the university to speed up procedures for the construction inauguration in late December.

Khanh Hoa University has suggested Khanh Hoa Province could allow using typhoon recovery funding to pay the VND580 million urgent repair. Besides, in late October, the university was given approval by Khanh Hoa People’s Committee to invest in 2 projects on repairing a guest house and basketball court (estimated capital of VND900 million). Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has approved the repair design and cost estimation totaling VND4.9 billion. The project is expected to be developed in the 2018 – 2019 period.

However, the 2 projects include the repair of roofs, ceilings, floors, glass doors and windows. Therefore, the university will make additional cost estimates of items not covered by the funding approved by the Provincial People's Committee and suggest Khanh Hoa Party Committee and People's Committee could allow adjusting the general cost estimate of the two projects in December to be submitted to Khanh Hoa People's Committee for approval and using the typhoon recovery funding in the construction in 2018.
