Leaflets are delivered  to women in Son Thai Commune in the 1st period.

According to leaders of Khanh Hoa Branch for Population & Family Planning, the campaign has been implemented in the 5 communes of Giang Ly, Son Thai (Khanh Vinh District), Son Tan (Cam Lam District), and Ba Cum Bac and Son Lam (Khanh Son District), which have high birth rates. Due to traffic difficulties, many ethnic minority people have little access to reproductive health and family planning services. The campaign includes 2 periods, the first period on May 10 – 31 and the second until September 30 in communities not yet meeting required criteria in the first period. The campaign has focused on propaganda with posters, banners, leaflets, talks and direct consulting at home, attracting thousands of adolescents, young adults and reproductive aged women.

A resident named Bo Bo Thi Lan, Son Lam Commune, with 4 children is suffering financial hardship. Her two little children are malnourished and are often sick. She has been provided guidance on suitable contraceptive methods through the campaign. With 2 children, a woman named Mau Thi Huong in Ba Cum Bac Commune has been advised to take contraceptive pills. She admits that  families with many children are often exposed  to a high  risk of  poverty and thus she decides not to give more births so that her children can have adequate care and better education to have a brighter future.

Besides the 5 communes under the campaign, this year, 32 communes (25 in Khanh Vinh District and Cam Lam District; and 7 in Van Ninh District and Cam Ranh City) have been engaged in the campaign, using their local funding for operation. The communes have mobilized the application of family planning methods such as sterilization (38 cases), contraceptive injection (1,417), contraceptive implantation (162) and reproductive healthcare services for nearly 10,000 women, including 1,670 having received treatment, etc, thus helping to improve onsite reproductive healthcare and fulfill required criteria for the whole year.

The campaign has been implemented on schedule with various activities meeting required criteria. Especially, local departments and organizations have joined effort in task allocation, monitoring and supervision to assure the campaign runs smoothly and effectively. Family planning service supply has been made availabe at local medical units. The 5 communes have met and exceeded required criteria, according to Tran Thi Van Anh, Chief of the Propaganda & Education Office, Khanh Hoa Branch for Population & Family Planning.

With such achievements, the Population & Family Planning campaign 2016 has contributed to raising public awareness of reproductive health care and family planning among disadvantaged communities, especially women in mountainous areas. This has helped building basis towards limiting  limit the size of  families to under 3 children and improving population quality in disadvantaged communities.
