The 2017 Lunar New Year gathering program for workers is designed to build a harmonious work relationship and a secure and productive environment; minimize work dispute and strikes; promote resources from organizations, agencies and individuals to join support effort to make sure all laborers will have a happy new year holiday; and thus confirm the Trade Union’s role and position in protecting workers’ legal rights and working conditions; and providing support for workers on the holiday season, according to Nguyen Hoa, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation.
This year, the Trade Union continues providing much concern on the New Year celebration for workers far from home. The gathering event is expected to include more activities than pervious years. Besides the New Year program at Khanh Hoa Labor & Culture House, Cam Ranh City Labor Confederation, the Trade Unions of Agriculture and Rural Development; Industrial and Economic Zones are required to hold this year-end program in the localities. Other grassroots Trade Unions are encouraged to celebrate the event based on their specific situations to benefit disadvantaged workers who spend Tet far from home and families.
In addition, the trade Union will take a survey of workers who have not gone home to visit their families during Tet holiday for many years and suggest employers to offer transport assistance for needy workers’ trip back home for the national holiday. “Trade Union is present anywhere workers are in need” campaign has been expanded. New Year visit will be paid with gifts and grants offered to workers in need, suffering from occupational diseases or accidents; and on duty during the holiday. Housing grants will be given so that poor workers can celebrate Tet holiday in new houses.
Moreover, to assure a happy holiday for all Trade Union members and employees, the Trade Union at all levels is required to closely follow the New Year celebration plan by the Khanh Hoa Labor Confederation for effective implementation; listen to workers’ opinions and suggestions to assure their legal benefits and rights, especially in businesses facing difficulty and at high risk of labor dispute and strikes; coordinate with local authorities, and inspection and supervision organizations to motivate workers, forward their suggestions to relevant departments for consideration or support; along with employers, make early plans on the payment of salaries and bonuses on the occasion of Lunar New Year holiday and the back-to-work day; timely recommend methods to solve problems arising in labor relations; closely monitor businesses’ salary and bonus payment and implementation of the minimum wage policy applied from January 1, 2017.
The Trade Union at all levels also needs to organize dialogues with employers to solve labor difficulties timely to prevent disputes and strikes; provide favorable conditions for trade Union members and workers to enjoy a safe and joyful Tet holiday and further promote businesses and benefactors' joint effort in assuring a warm New year holiday for needy workers.
