70th foundation anniversary of Vietnam Red Cross

On November 23, Khanh Hoa Red Cross held a ceremony to mark the 70th foundation anniversary of Vietnam Red Cross (November 23, 1946 - 2016) and review its task in 2016. Present at the event were Nguyen Tan Tuan, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; and Nguyen Dac Tai, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.

At the get-together, representatives reviewed Vietnam Red Cross’s development and contribution to charity work. Khanh Hoa Red Cross has confirmed its role and position in humanity aid totaling ten billions of dong annually after 40 years of construction and development. In 2016, Khanh Hoa Red Cross at all levels has done its social work worth more than VND38.3 billion and helped over 149,500 people; and mobilized thousands of people to join blood donation, collecting nearly 17,400 units of blood. The work efficiency has reached 10.84 times as much as the State funding.

 

Speaking at the event, Nguyen Tan Tuan required Khanh Hoa Red Cross to boost its consultancy task for the provincial Party Committee and People’s Committee to give effective and timely guidance on the implementation of the State and government polices on charity work and social security; continue reinforcing the organizational structure, promote campaigns integrated with propaganda to draw public engagement in charity work and support activities for poor or vulnerable people. Besides, the Red Cross at all levels was asked to fulfill first aid emergency, continue its main role in blood donation propaganda, and boost calling for resources at home and abroad and humanity aid projects and programs for sustainable poverty alleviation, etc.

 

On this occasion, the Central Red Cross awarded the title “National Excellent Red Cross official” to 9 individuals; certificates of merit to 30 organizations and 56 individuals; and commemorative medals “For the cause of humanity” to 68 individuals. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee granted certificates of merit to 15 organizations and 21 individuals.
