Up till now, 10 places in Khanh Hoa Province have been certified as safe food sellers. Local authorities have set a target of at least 2 safe food selling spots in each community by the end of this year. Besides, a survey is being conducted in 4 markets namely Dam, Xom Moi, Phuoc Thai and Vinh Hai in Nha Trang City to establish more safe food selling spots.
 
However, safe food is quite expensive, according to some shoppers. Its price is much higher than that of normal one, up 20% or even more. 3F Food Mart 9 (9 Pasteur Street, Nha Trang) is one of 10 certified safe food businesses. Its certified safe food available includes chicken, pork, salad, baby eggplants, baby carrots, strawberries, fried fish cakes and sprouts. All the food origin can be easily tracked, says a manager of the supermarket.
 
Safe food certification requires food process, storage, preparation, production, transportation, etc to meet safety criteria. Therefore, its price is higher than normal food, according to Chu Duc Hung, an expert at the Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Division, Khanh Hoa Agriculture & Rural Development Department.
 
At Khanh Hang Minced Meat Roll Production & Business Enterprise (191 Tran Nguyen Han Street, Nha Trang), food production meets safety standards, regarding equipment and storage hygiene. All finished food is put on high shelves. “Fresh materials are a must in producing minced meat rolls. We have signed contracts with reputable slaughter-houses in Khanh Hoa. Our products are naturally fresh. Harmful substances such as borax, etc are not used. Product quality is our top priority to build and develop our trademarks and gain consumers’ trust,” says the enterprise owner.
 
Food safety certificates are issued to food businesses which meet food safety practices including food handling, storage, processing, packaging, collection and transportation. Apart from supervision and management by the authorities, food safety propaganda among food businesses has been launched by the Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance Division. The trial launch of the food safety certification is put under frequent supervision in order to promote food safety for consumers. In addition, food businesses are to take self-responsibility for keeping food safety and quality which can be considered as the best way to develop their trademarks and win consumers’ trust to draw customers.
