After the storm Damrey, demand for building materials for house repair has risen sharply. Market Control of Khanh Hoa Province has inspected stores to prevent price escalation.

At checked places, the provincial Market Control requested stores to post price list and committed not to increase prices. There’s a big demand for corrugated iron at present. At corrugated iron stores, many people wait to buy. Many people have to wait for many hours. “The storm blew up my house’ roof. I need corrugated iron to repair it. I’ve waited to buy from the early morning but it hasn’t been still my turn now because there are a lot of buyers. Other stores also have a lot of buyers”, a man named Nguyen Hai Minh said. Despite the rising demand, most the stores have sold corrugated iron at normal prices. Le Thi Kim Anh, a store owner on Phong Chau Street, confirmed, “We don’t have enough corrugated iron for all demand, but we surely sell at right prices. We have committed about it with the provincial Market Control.”

Nguyen Huu Ly, deputy manager of the provincial Market Control said, “Up to now, we have found any cases of price escalation. We have asked many stores to sign commitments. Some corrugated iron stores cannot sell because there’s no power. Some cannot sell enough iron for buyer because their iron corrugating machines have limited productivity. However, there are surely necessary products and building materials for the market.”

The demand for power generators has also risen after the storm as the power was cut. Stores selling power generators in streets like Sinh Trung, 2-4, Thong Nhat, etc. in Nha Trang have a lot of customers. Nguyen Tien, a store owner, said that in two days November 4 and 5, my store sold out 30 power generators and he ordered more from suppliers in Ho Chi Minh City to have enough power generators to sell.
