With an average income of VND200 million a year from growing Thai jujubes, Nguyen Van Dien, living in Cam Thanh Nam, Cam Ranh City, is a bright example for young people in doing business.

Dien was born in a poor family and he used to do many jobs to earn living. In 2008, he determined on overcoming poverty by farming. At first, he grew sugarcanes on three poles of soil, but he lost because his sugarcanes got diseased.

After that, realizing that Thai jujubes can be grown well by some local people, he lent some capital, learned and started growing this kind of fruit. He changed 2,000 sq.m. into 120 jujube trees initially. Succeeding in the first crop, he changed all his garden into Thai jujube trees. Up to now, his jujube garden has been expanded to 7,000 sq.m.

At present, his Thai jujube garden is in end-crop harvest. Every 4 days, he sells 4 tons of jujubes at price of VND6,000 – VND10,000/kg. His jujubes are often purchased right at the garden by merchants, and then carried to many cities and provinces like Ho Chi Minh City, Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, etc. “Thanks to attending many training courses held by the local Youth Union and other units, I’ve collected a lot of knowledge and techniques of jujube growing and applied into the reality. In 2015, I drilled a well to water the jujube trees and dug fish ponds as a spare water supply.

Cam Ranh Youth Union Secretary Cao Nho Tri confirmed that Nguyen Van Dien is an example of overcoming difficulties and doing businesses well. He’s also active in other activity in the locality and is a helpful person.
