Hon Ro Port in Nha Trang during the past days has been busy with fishing boats which landed with high yield of tunas.

A fisherman named Nguyen Minh Phuc said, “Despite rough sea, our trip has fished 40 tunas weighing nearly 2 tons. So, we have earned good income.”

Another fisherman named Phan Huynh (in Phuoc Dong Commune) also revealed that his boat has just caught nearly 3 tons of tunas. With the price of VND105,000/kg purchased at port, his sales from this trip was nearly VND315 million. He earned over VND180 million after expenses. Employees of the trip were paid VND11 million each.

Tunas are purchased at VND105,000/kg at Hon Ro Port, rising by VND10,000/kg. According to some purchasers, the increase in fish price is due to the lack in materials for processing seafood. Fishery companies buy fish at higher price to have enough fish for export. Additionally, this time is the end of tuna harvest, which also accounts for the price increase.

According to Head of Hon Ro Port Management Board Do Trung Hieu, only two first sea-going trips of this year had good crops of tunas, the five following ones had poor crops. These days, boats have a bumper crop of tunas again. Each boat has caught 30 – 40 tunas, even 180 ones. It earned each fishing boat owners over VND100 million.
