Nha Trang is one of two places in Vietnam chosen for the project of Vietnam Space Center. First astronomical observatory in Vietnam has been built up in Nha Trang to serve scientific research. It’s also expected to become a new destination for visitors. 
 
Nha Trang astronomical observatory is situated in Hon Chong. It’s a 5-floor building with a 9-meter wide dome. Inside the building are working offices, display sectors of constellation and universe phenomenon images, and especially an astronomical telescope that is 0.5 meters in diameter on the top floor. This astronomical telescope has been the biggest and most modern one in Vietnam.
 
It’s a reflecting telescope, designed and produced by famous  Italian company Marcon. The reflecting telescope features two Hyperbolic mirrors, primary and secondary. It also has a camera and a spectrum analyse set.

Besides, the astronomical observatory has a 342 sq.m. area with 61 seats. This area is like a cinema whose screen is a dome with 9 meters in diameter. It has 6 projectors filming 3D images of the sky and stars. The films are about the solar system, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, etc., astronomical phenomema, space discovery…It can supply visitors with knowledge about astromonhy such explanation for seasons in a year, positions of heavenly bodies in the sky, phenomena like solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, etc.
 
According to PHD Pham Anh Tuan, director of Vietnam Space Center, Nha Trang astronomical observatory undertakes researching astronomy basically and disseminating universal science to the community. The observatory also gives training about astronomy as well as cooperates with researchers home and abroad.
 
Initially, Nha Trang astronomical observatory plans to host classes about astronomy and then set up a astronomical club for people who love astronomy in the Central region. Also as planned, the astronomical observatory will welcome visitors in October. It may become a destination in tours in Nha Trang.
