Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee recently issued new regulation for Khanh Hoa Press Awards. Accordingly, the new regulation includes some amendments and supplements to the old one.

Specifically, the entries for Khanh Hoa Press Awards have to be published and broadcast on newspapers, magazines, radio, and television from January 1 to December 31 of the same year instead of from May 1 of the previous year to April 30 of the next year when the awards being held as before. As said by Doan Minh Long, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Journalists’ Association, this change was made based on the dates of the National Press Awards. With this new regulation, the entrants will have more chances to send entries to the national awards. Beside, it will help the preparations for the provincial press awards and cerebration for Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21), which honors the outstanding journalists and journalism, being carried out more carefully.

Additionally, the prize money will be 48% higher than the previous awards. Accordingly, there will be two first prizes of VND15 million each; four second prizes of VND10 million each; six third prizes of VND8 million each; ten consolation prizes of VND3 million each. Collective prizes will also be not included in the awards, according to the new regulation.

Under the new regulation, the journalism which are published in the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and were not given prizes at the 2017 Khanh Hoa Press Awards are eligible for the 2018 awards. The provincial Journalists’ Association will send out detailed information about the 2018 Khanh Hoa Press Awards to the Journalists’ Association branches.

These changes are expected to create more chances for the journalists in Khanh Hoa to take part in the National Press Awards; give encouragement to the journalists so that they can work better and produce excellent journalism; improve the quality of the provincial press awards.

Doan Minh Long hoped that Khanh Hoa journalism will perform well the role of a bridge between the Communist Party, the State, and the people; publish editorials or social commentaries; convey the opinions and wishes of the inhabitants to the authorities.
