Improvement in preserving and promoting cultural heritages in Khanh Hoa

On November 23, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports will celebrate the 2017 Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day.
 
As said by Nguyen Khac Ha, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, in recent years, the department has made many efforts in preserving and promoting the cultural heritages in the province. Until now, Khanh Hoa has 16 nation-level monuments and sights, 3 nation-level intangible cultural heritages, 172 province-level monuments and sights.
 
In 2017, Khanh Hoa has promoted the restoration and embellishment of the monuments. Apart from the funds allocated by the provincial cultural department and local People’s Committees, the local authorities in association with the monuments’ management committee and local people have taken initiative to mange and use the socialized funds to restore the monuments. At present, the province has finished the designs for 14 province-level monuments which have been restoring and embellishing. The total expense for the restoration and embellishment is around VND15 billion, in which more than VND4.6 billion are given by the provincial Department of Culture and Sports.

 

 
Also in this year, the provincial Department of Culture and Sports suggested some ideas to intensify the management and organization of cultural festivals; directed the localities to observe the regulations on management and organization of the festivals according to the Circular No.15 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Accordingly, the main festivals such as Ponagar Temple Festival, Death Anniversary of Hung Kings, and traditional folk cultural festivals have to be solemnly organized in accordance with the cultural traditions and regulations of Vietnam. 
 
The Department of Culture and Sports of Khanh Hoa held a seminar on preservation of bai choi folk intangible cultural heritage; published 1,000 publications and 500 DVDs of Whale Worshipping Ritual.
 
The department inspected all the degradable monuments in the province; planed to carry out the necessary restoration and embellishment in the 2017-2019 period. These activities have received positive response from the local authorities and people.
 
Reportedly, the provincial cultural section will display and introduce the cultural heritages to the public at Ponagar Temple and Hon Chong tourist site; complete building of relic stele introducing Mui Doi – Hon Doi tourist site; building the road leading to Dr. Alexandre Yersin’s Tomb in Cam Lam District, temple to Tran Duong (a nobleman) in Van Ninh; work out the project to preserve and promote Dien Khanh Ancient Citadel.
 
In order to honor the artisans who have been active contributors in preserving the traditional cultural heritages in the province, the department proposed that they should be recognized as “Meritorious Artisan” and “People’s Artisan”. Up to now, there have been five artisans who were helped to prepare documents to submit to the State President.
 
In 2017, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture and Sports associated with the localities over the province to organize eight contests on cultural heritages for the pupils and students. The most outstanding teams were selected to take part in the provincial level contest. Through these contests, the department aimed to provide the knowledge and increase the awareness of cultural heritage preservation of more people, especially young ones. 
 
On the occasion of the 2017 Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, the department will commend and reward the collectives and individuals who have contributed much to the preservation and promotion of cultural heritages in the province. The provincial Museum holds exhibition on the culture of the Highland.
